You know what, On September 28, 2018, Facebook confirmed almost 50 million accounts may be at risk after hackers exploited a vulnerability that allowed them to gain access to user accounts and potentially to their personal information. The accounts that have been compromised include the Facebook accounts of Mark Zuckerberg, who is the CEO of the company, and accounts of chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg.

One thing more, Between the estimated 50 million accounts whose access tokens were compromised, and the 40 million more users whose accounts Facebook reset as a precautionary step, an estimated 90 million users were logged out of their Facebook accounts.

The security breach is due to a bug in View As a feature. As a result, Facebook reset users accounts to protect their security which has now been fixed. Although, as a Facebook user you still need to be very careful.

How do you know that your Facebook Account has been affected?
If you were logged out of Facebook, or if you get logged out of the site today even though you don’t recall hitting logging out button, there is a fair chance that you are one of the 90 million Facebook users who has been affected by the breach.
NOTE: Facebook is saying once the affected users log back in, they will be shown a message telling them that their account was compromised.
Steps to secure Facebook account
First of all, I would like to recommend you that you should go into the [ Facebook settings ] and [ Change your Password ] immediately. Then follow these two steps :
STEP 1) Check your Connected Apps
Facebook security tokens are used by not just Facebook but also by many other apps and websites like Tinder or Jabong or Runtastic where you have used Facebook ID. The affected [ Access Tokens ] are what which keep users logged into Facebook on their devices, and saves them from having to re-enter their password every time they want to use the site.

For safety purpose, you should go to the [ Facebook security settings ]. Do it by logging into the [ Account > Settings > Apps and Websites ]. Here you will get a list of third-party apps and websites using your Facebook ID. Select the ones that you do not use anymore or the ones that you find shady. Then revoke access. In fact, revoke access to all apps and websites and then sign in again when needed.
STEP 2) Use 2-factor Authentication
If you turn [ ON ] this feature that is 2-factor Authentication then this makes your account much more secure. Log into your [ Account ] > [ Settings ] > [ Security ] and Login > [ Two-Factor Authentication ]. Then follow the on-screen instructions.
