Most of us prefer to setup screen lock to our Android smartphones either by entering some complex PIN, pattern or password. However, you will almost certainly agree that such intricate locks become a menace in situation when unfortunately you forget the code and fail to decode it multiple times. No matter how petrifying that moment is there are certain quick solutions that will help you regain access to your Android smartphone in a jiffy! What are they? Well, read to find out.

Most users tend to use the fingerprint scanner or face unlock more often, some users might forget the pattern/ pin/ password they registered a while back. Or, you might be taking out an old phone to use after a few months or years and have forgotten the password or the pattern. In such cases, sadly, there is no way to recover your data (unless you remember your password or pin) without factory resetting your device.

The Factory Reset

We’re moving into some slightly more drastic measures now, but if you have all your data backed up and there is nothing on your phone that you can’t live without, a factory reset is a good way of starting over.

There are checks to stop Factory Resets however so you’ll need your Google log in information to complete this step. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Ensure your phone or tablet has at least 30 percent charge
  • Open the Settings app
  • Scroll down to and select Backup & reset
  • Tap Factory data reset
  • Select Reset phone
  • Select Erase everything
  • If you have a Google password you will be prompted to enter it now

You can then log in to your Google account to restore any lost data, and set a new password that you’ll remember or set up biometrics for your password to avoid getting locked out in the future.

How to Unlock Your Smartphone By Doing a Hard Reset

Click on “Forgot pattern” at the bottom of the lock screen. You would asked to enter your primary Google Account details i.e. username and password –> Once done click on Next. You can draw a new pattern to unlock your phone –> Tap on continue when done. Draw the pattern once again –>Tap on Confirm when done. You can now unlock your phone with the new pattern lock.

You can follow the similar process in case you have forgotten the PIN to unlock your device.
