The consensus seems to be that we can expect the iPhone 14 to cost more than the iPhone 13 line-up – but a new report out today suggests that the increase may be less than expected.
There are a few reasons to expect Apple to increase the starting price of this year’s line-up, from new features to increased component costs.
iPhone 14 price increase expected
First, and most obviously, the non-Pro models are changing from a Mini and Standard model to a Standard and Max model.
Apple is expected to replace its non-Pro spot with a standard and a Max model in a lineup currently filled with Mini and standard models. Allowing users to opt for a 6.7-inch screen size without forcing them to buy the highest Pro model, this would indicate a higher asking price for the lineup.
Other reasons for the increased prices include expected camera improvements for the iPhone 14 lineup, including increasing the Pro sensor from 12MP to 48MP. There is also the possibility of 8K video recording..
It is also rumored that Apple is considering dropping an initial 128GB of storage on the iPhone, replacing it with a 256GB base amount.
The iPhone 14 lineup is also expected to get satellite communications capabilities. Additionally, to protect the all-important profit margin, component costs have risen significantly, possibly prompting Apple to increase its prices.
Many have expected the base model iPhone to be priced at $799. Prices are expected to be.
- iPhone 14: $799
- iPhone 14 Max: $899
- iPhone 14 Pro: $1,099
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: $1,199
The pros are getting upgrades that the vanilla pairing will fail in price. This includes the fresh Apple A16 chipset, LPDDR5 RAM, refreshed 120Hz LTPO show with AOD functionality and a refreshed Face ID system, high resolution 48MP flagship cameras with 8K video recording, refreshed ultra wide cameras and extras. The vanilla iPhone 14 and 14 Max didn’t even get the fresh chipset (if rumors are to be believed).
Even as Apple awaits solid gross sales for the iPhone 14 sequel, we’ll see how it goes. A valid announcement is scheduled for September 7th (Wednesday next week), so tune in next week for valid costs and content.
